Faith S. Howard
Faith Shekinah Howard (also known under her literary pen name Fakir-Adrian) is a Detroit-born multi-talented powerhouse. Fakir-Adrian is a writer, poet, performance/visual artist, model, and educator with a propensity for infusing the mundane with the magical. As a high schooler, Faith became the Detroit School of Art's first student keynote speaker in honor of her success in the realm of policy debate. That foundation gave Faith the leadership skills required to establish the Writers Guild of Wayne State University while returning to her alma mater to teach and prepare 9th to 12th-grade students for monthly debate competitions.
Combining powerful public speaking ability with subversive artistry, Faith's craft has earned her 1st place (2024) and 2nd Place (2025) in the Phillip Lawson Hatch Jr. Memorial Writing Competition in English, 2nd place in the Tompkins Award for Poetry, the Stephen H. Tudor Memorial Scholarship in Creative Writing, the Joseph J. and Mary E. Yelda Endowed Merit Scholarship for English, a Bear River Writers Conference Scholarship @UofM, and the Ibex Arts Scholarship Award in Poetry. Faith and her collegiate debate partner, Irshad Husain, were 17th seed/a top 20 team at the 2023 National Debate Tournament (the premier national championship for policy debate) in Chantilly, Virginia, breaking a nine-year streak in which WSU as a team had not reached elimination rounds.
Faith is currently a sixth-grade English Language Arts and Social Studies teacher, inspiring disenfranchised students to find and develop their unique voices.
